Cartier Privé Tortue
Cartier Privé Tortue
“The Tortue might be the most elegant watch of all, and this model just breathes classic chic.”
Conceived by the Maison de Cartier in 1912, the Tortue - from the French tortue à pattes, meaning ‘tortoise on legs’ is naturally named for the distinctive, streamlined shape that has made it not just apermanent fixture of Cartier fashion, but an icon of watchmaking. Whilst creations of a similar era - the Tank, the Santos and the Tonneau - remained time-only, the Tortue was Cartier’s boundary-pushing model, and by 1928, the collection featured both monopusher chronograph and minute repeater complications. This 2024 model, however, is a testament toCartier’s classic charm, but with contemporary engineering and finishing. In glistening 18k yellow gold, the case measures a generous 41.4 x 32.9mm, beautifully enveloping the distinguished, hallmark Cartier dial, with its bold Roman numerals, golden-finish apple-shaped hands, champagne-coloured grained dial and cabochon sapphire crown, used to wind the cal. 430 MC movement with up-to-date 38-hour power reserve. The watch comes on its semi-matte blue alligator leather strap, complete with 18k yellow gold ardillon buckle. Limited edition of 200 pieces worldwide. A beautiful homage to history.
