Combining two of the most useful complications which we see within wristwatches, the reference 5905 seems to have it all. Available in three different variations, it is the example here (5905P-001) which is widely recognised as the most popular variant thanks to its blue sunburst dial, platinum case (signified by its diamond within the case at 6 o’clock) and matching blue strap. Housing Patek’s in-house and self-winding mechanical Annual Calendar Chronograph movement, the dial itself sounds like it would be busy. However, thanks to Patek’s stunning methods of subtlety, the dial layout is anything but busy, and remains incredibly elegant in the way which it displays the central time, chronograph within a 6 o’clock sub-dial, as well as the annual calendar display across the top arc of the dial. Requiring adjustment just once a year in February, the complication encased within its 42mm platinum case is outstanding, and at just 14.03mm thick, it wears beautifully on the wrist giving a large and heavy, yet elegant presence.
