Most definitely the most talked-about watch of 2021 thus far, Patek Philippe really took the world by storm when they announced the 5711/1A in this blue dial variant was to be discontinued imminently - a year after the white dial was removed from the catalogue. No one expected this, and as such the demand for the already-in-demand Nautilus increased exponentially. 

This current example, albeit the “010” reference, has the older-style dial, in which the dial text is printed directly on the horizontal lines of the dial, rather than the later models displaying the text upon a flat boarder. Preferred by collectors thanks to its resemblance of the original Nautilus ref. 3700/1A from 1976, of all the 5711’s produced between 2006 and 2021 this has to be the one to sit within the true enthusiasts collection. As well as this dial difference, the watch we have contains the old-style self-winding Calibre 324 S C movement, which was replaced by the Caliber 26‑330 S C in late 2018 - a change that not many people were aware of at the time.

The 5711 speaks for itself in its general aesthetics, and its 40mm case size and height of just over 8mm makes it instantly recognisable as a Nautilus. The porthole-inspired original design by Genta remains significant in this modern-day piece, and now that the chapter of the 5711 is closed, its safe to say that this could well be one of the most important watches of the century thus far.

Condition Report:

Having been worn sparingly over the past three years, the watch comes to us in overall very good condition. The bracelet and clasp show some light wear as expected throughout both the polished and brushed sections. The main case of the watch remains in excellent condition and the bezel is immaculate. Fully complete with its Patek Philippe box, leather folder, booklets, swing tag and Certificate of Origin, there really aren’t many greater investment opportunities than this recently-discontinued icon.
