Patek Philippe Aquanaut “Transitional Model”
Patek Philippe Aquanaut “Transitional Model”
Originally released in 1997, the Aquanaut took the world by storm given Patek’s dress-watch reputation. Releasing a watch on a rubber strap, in stainless steel, was almost unheard of at the time. Yet, in typical Patek Philippe-fashion, the Aquanaut has become one of the most iconic and sought-after models of the current era. Known as a some-what transitional reference, the 5165A is an almost unknown watch within Patek’s history and not something we have the privilege of handling very often. Featuring a smaller case size (by 2mm) than its current-production alternative in the 5167A, the 5165A wears beautifully on the wrist as has a more understated appeal than that of modern Aquanauts. Famously worn by Sir Paul McCartney himself, the watch really is suitable for any individual.
Condition Report:
In lovely condition and paired with a brand new, and uncut black rubber strap, this 5165A is quite the addition to almost anybody’s collection. Having been worn very cautiously in the decade since its sale date, this Aquanaut comes to us in absolutely lovely condition. As the watch begins to enter its ageing process, its hands display a rich green luminous colour, and the case and clasp remain in very strong condition throughout displaying harsh brushed-finished and beautifully polished areas. Sold as the watch itself, the uncut strap, and an Extract from the Archives confirming the watches sale in May 2008, this transitional-series Aquanaut is something we do not see very often and certainly something special.
