The legendary Patek Philippe Nautilus, famously inspired by the shape of a ship’s porthole, first set sail in 1976, and the still-modern Gérald Genta design is at its technical and aesthetic pinnacle in this new Travel Time Chronograph edition, the reference 5990. This supremely functional and incredibly slick Nautilus offers modern design, solid construction, unquestionable quality and, importantly, utility: A flyback chronograph, a travel time function with two distinct time zone displays, and a date function synchronised with local time. The 40.5mm case retains the hallmark styling of Patek Philippe, and the brushed bezel contrasts beautifully with the polished case sides and pushers. Featuring the latest dial release, a “sunburst blue with black-gradient rim and gold-applied hour markers,” in the words of Patek, the dark-to-light gradation changes the watch’s colour according to light and angle. The superlative, elegant movement is shown off through the sapphire case back, whilst the integrated bracelet is secured by Patek’s technological update for 2022, their patented adjustable, lockable fold-over clasp.
