Originally released in 2005, the Offshore Diver (known then as the Scuba) shook the watch industry. The calls had been answered for a true sports watch, somewhat of a rebirth for the Royal Oak collection, designed originally by Gérald Genta, in the form of a diver’s helmet. A few iterations later, in 2021, and instantly a hit with collectors the world over, this Audemars Piguet reference 15720 in steel, shows off all its best design features. The khaki green dial with a “Méga Tapisserie” pattern compliments the rose gold hands and indexes; elegant, yet not subtracting from the sporty feel. With a rotating inner bezel, tactile quick-change strap system, dual ceramic screw-down crowns, and an open caseback celebrating the calibre 4308 movement, there is little left to be desired. At 42mm, this watch leans towards the smaller side of the Offshore collection, yet it maintains perfect proportions whether you are in the boardroom or 150 metres deep diving off the coast of Sable Island.
