It’s not often we are taken back when purchasing a watch to put it up for sale, but this simply stunning annual calendar from Patek Philippe was one of those. Pictures don’t even do this watch justice. At 38.5mm and cased in rose gold, ref. 5396 is a fantastic watch when it comes to both its size and also functionality. Displaying a double in-line aperture for the day and month, and another aperture at the 6 o’clock, below the moon phase, displaying the date, the watch is perfectly balanced. However, it’s the dial on this specific iteration of the reference that makes it pretty special. An elegant blue sunburst dial is paired with baguette-cut diamond hour markers around the circumference of the dial, which are incredibly subtle yet beautifully classy. Looking at the rear of the watch, the wearer is given a lovely sapphire-crystal case back which exposes that impressive self-winding mechanical movement within which powers the watches complications. At 11.2mm thick, and waterproof to 30m, there aren’t many dress watches available from the brand which meet the beauty of this one, and it is the perfect watch for someone who wants something a little understated, but also oozes chic.
