Patek Philippe World Time
Patek Philippe World Time
“The 5131 has such an unmistakable, unique appeal, and this white gold model’s intense, striking colours have made it one of the most sought-after watches on the planet. ”
The World Time complication was created by Louis Cottier in 1931, and it didn’t take long for Patek Philippe to commission their first two references, leading the way once again in horology’s most iconic complications. Released in 2009, the 5131G features a case sculpted entirely from 18k white gold, classic “stealth wealth” and suitable for all occasions. Designed to show the time in all 24 time zones, the watch’s hour and minute hands are coordinated with an outer chapter ring displaying 24 reference cities, with the pusher shifting the ring one hour at a time. A rotating 24-hour inner chapter ring turns once a day, showing the time in the cities other than the wearer’s. The undoubted star of the 5131, however, is its eye-catching, meticulous cloisonné enamel dial, one of the most famous in watchmaking. Requiring incredible artistry and attention to detail to craft, only a handful are produced each year, making this one of the most coveted pieces worldwide. In vibrant tones of green, yellow, orange and red, and beautifully lined in gold, the dial depicts Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. Visible through the sapphire display caseback is the in-house cal.240HU movement, complete with decorative 22k gold rotor. Sheer beauty.
