Patek Philippe World Time "Platinum"
Patek Philippe World Time "Platinum"
Quite possibly one of our most favoured complications here at Watches London, we really can’t get enough of these World Time’s by Patek Philippe. None more so than the discontinued, slightly smaller and incredibly charming references like this 5130. The world time is synonymous with Patek Philippe, and continues to remain as one of the most significant complications within the entirety of Patek’s offerings. The first wrist-wearing world time was released in 1939 by Patek, reference 1415, and when looking at this reference, you can see the inspiration behind the 2006 introduction of ref. 5130 (with a few references in between of course). Widely recognised and thought to be the most elegant world timer’s ever made, the case size is 39.5mm and has glorious curves throughout its polished case. Available in a number of metals, it is without a doubt this platinum cased variant which is the most desired, subtle, and beautiful. Its platinum case, indicated by the diamond sat within the case at the 6 o’clock position, is a work of art given the difficulties of working with the material in question. Looking at the dial, and exclusively to the platinum bezel, the wearer is greeted with a gorgeous blue guilloche sunburst central section, with the night/day 24-hour ring and 24-time zones surrounding it. The watch has been expertly designed and is incredibly easy to use thanks to the synergy between the self-winding calibre 240 HU movement within and the pusher at the 10 o’clock, which allows you to move time zones at the push of a button. The watch as a whole, especially when paired with its dark blue, square scared alligator leather strap and matching-platinum Patek folding buckle, is a superb offering - especially when looking at the value-for-money perspective. This is Patek Philippe, and in a world of Nautilus’ and Aquanaut’s going for huge prices, we know which we’d rather have.
Condition Report:
In very strong overall condition, the watch in question has been worn, however infrequently since its first and only polish by Patek Philippe in its November 2019 service. Within the service, the watch was entirely overhauled by the brand in which the necessary components within its automatic calibre 240 HU movement were replaced, and the case and clasp were both cleaned meticulously and polished. As mentioned, the watch has been worn since, but remains in very good overall condition in which its mirror-like finish can be appreciated by its new owner. Fitted to a dark blue alligator leather strap, ad featuring its matching-platinum folding clasp, the watch is complete with its original box, leather folder, World Time instruction booklets, Certificate of Origin, and Singapore-issued service completion report.
