Reference 5130 is truly one of our favoured references by Patek Philippe, and if our Platinum variant isn’t your cup of tea, this gorgeous White Gold offering very might well be. Featuring a somewhat more subdued dial to its alternate platinum offering, the white gold 5130 truly is a work of art, with navy text for its 24-cities surrounding the dial, and matching-coloured details throughout the inner disk. Its central section showcases expert-guilloché, in a silvery-white theme which is just gorgeous, especially when its blackened-white gold hands, dial text and hour markers sit upon it. Possibly one of the very last 5130G’s in production (notable by its date of purchase and its “019” reference number, the reference was quickly updated to the 5230 in 2016, which sees use of a more angular case design, and far more modern than its predecessor. Featuring an automatic calibre 240 HU movement within, the watch is self-winding thanks to its micro-rotor, which can be admired by its owner at a glance thanks to its sapphire case back, exposing the glorious watch-making within. And in spite of the complexity of its movement, ref. 5130 is gloriously simple to use. As mentioned, the central part of the dial accommodates the hour and minute hands that indicate local time and is encircled by two rotating discs. The outer disc displays the names of the 24 cities that stand for the world’s 24 time zones. Each time the pusher at 10 o’clock is pressed, the hour hand for local time advances by one hour while the 24-hour disc and the city disc move counter-clockwise by one interval, giving the watch a huge fit-for-travel offering.

Having just returned from a complete service at Patek Philippe, this World Time is like it is a brand new watch. Having been expertly inspected by the wonderful watch-makers at the Patek Philippe service centre, the entire movement has been overhauled and brought back to how it was when the watch was first delivered in 2015. Its white gold case and fold-over clasp have been refinished to showcase the mirror-like polish finish throughout that we are so familiar with in Patek dress watches, and the watch has even been fitted to a brand new matte navy alligator leather strap. Under manufacturer’s warranty until December 2023, there really isn’t a better watch in the market at this budget that showcases such value-for-money and exquisite taste.
