The Rolex Day-Date requires no introduction, and none more so than this latest variation of the Day-Date 40. Available in two different sizes now, rather than the 36mm-only era before 2008, the Day-Date 40 has been hugely popular since its launch in 2015 (08-15 saw the 41mm Day-Date II) thanks to its hugely wearable case size and presence on the wrist. The model, launched in 1956, was the first watch in history to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full, the the line have been synonymous with Rolex ever since, having never stopped production throughout its 66-year life span. New to the range, this latest model features the updated dial which sees a shift from the previously-seen flame-blued hands and Roman numerals to gorgeous and highly polished white gold across the entirety of hands and hour markers - all except the striking blue seconds hand with elusively and continuously moves around the dial in its perpetual fashion. The day aperture at the top of the dial make for instant recognition of the wearer’s surroundings, and is of course complemented by the central time and date window at 3 o’clock, which is of course how the model got its name. Its complication is powered by the superb calibre 3255 movement, and albeit regarded as more of a dress watch, it remains water resistant to 100m and thanks to its solid platinum president bracelet, is suitable for all occasions.
