Rolex Day-Date Oysterquartz
Rolex Day-Date Oysterquartz
“It’s impossible not to notice the Oysterquartz - it’s so unusual and a guaranteed conversation starter. The white gold model is perfect for daily wear.” Nick Baranga, Founder
With a sharp, angular and distinct aesthetic that is unique in Rolex’s journey, the Oysterquartz Day-Date is fast becoming a favourite with collectors, with prices rising rapidly in recent years. Fewer than 25,000 Oysterquartz pieces were ever produced, mostly in yellow gold, and this particular model, in white gold with an English Day Wheel, is extremely rarely seen. Rolex began their own research into electronic timekeeping in the early 1950s, well before the Quartz Crisis, but Rolex’s 5055 movement used in this model is still regarded as groundbreaking today, a marvel of technology and finished to an even higher standard than the brand’s mechanical movements. With a pioneering, distinctively defined case and comfortable integrated bracelet, the watch wears bolder and larger than its mechanical counterpart, but with the same unmistakable elegance. A rare reference and watch, and a fascinating piece of Rolex history.
