Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon, 50th Anniversary
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Tourbillon, 50th Anniversary
“A Tourbillon is a serious statement, and on top of a limited 50th Anniversary Royal Oak - the 26730 is a real powerhouse.”
Inspired by a traditional diver’s helmet, Gérald Genta’s masterpiece - the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak - is the original luxury sports watch, and this limited-edition 50th anniversary model, the 26730ST, spectacularly combines the line’s original aesthetic codes with a Flying Tourbillon. Constantly rotating the balance wheel, balance spring and escapement of a watch, the Tourbillon counters the effect of gravity and ensures superior timekeeping accuracy. The extreme skill required to create it, as well as its perpetually-whirring beauty, has made it perhaps the most breathtaking and prized of complications. With a case size of 41mm to accommodate the Tourbillon, the 26730 nonetheless adheres to Royal Oak tradition, with its smoked blue “Grande Tapisserie” dial - with white gold applied hour-markers - cut using a 100-year-old pantograph, a technique unique to Audemars Piguet. This method conjures different shades depending on angle, in keeping with its instantly-recognisable immaculate satin brushed octagonal case and integrated bracelet, which remain unrivalled in the way they play with light and reflect even the smallest amount with a unique elegance. As a final flourish, the sapphire display caseback offers the wearer a view of the stunning in-house cal.2950 movement, complete with 22k white gold ‘50th Anniversary’ rotor. An historic timepiece.
