First introduced in 1919, the Cartier Tank is an icon not just of watchmaking, but of artistic expression in general. The Tank Louis, with its distinctive rectangular case, rounded lugs and soft angles followed in 1922 and, in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Watches of Switzerland, Cartier have released a 100-piece limited edition model of the Tank Louis, with each model’s unique number hand-engraved on the caseback, creating a numerical link between the watch and its owner. Exclusively released in the UK, this is a contemporary watch that manages to capture the essence of the vintage Tanks, proving the timeless beauty of Louis Cartier’s original design. In 18k yellow gold, the case features the classic signature details of smooth, curved lugs and a blue cabochon crown, whilst the dial retains Cartier’s iconic blued steel hands. The brushed gold dial is subtly radiant, and the overall blue and gold aesthetic is completed with a navy alligator strap. The cal.1917MC manually-wound movement is an in-house masterpiece which has been deployed in modern Tanks, and Cartier’s partnership with Watches of Switzerland is immortalised in an engraving on the caseback. Brand new and unworn, the watch comes complete with its box, booklets and guarantee card, and remains under Cartier’s international warranty until 2026.
