Patek Philippe Nautilus
Patek Philippe Nautilus
“There is a certain aura that this variant of the 5980 Nautilus Chronograph holds, when there is one in the room there is no avoiding admiring it.” Nick Baranga, Founder
The legendary Patek Philippe Nautilus, famously inspired by the shape of a ship’s porthole, first set sail in 1976, and on its 30th anniversary the evergreen Gérald Genta-designed line received its first ever chronograph piece, the 5980 in steel, followed by this iteration in 2013. Its 40.5mm case, crafted entirely from sumptuous 18k rose gold, retains the hallmark styling of Patek Philippe, and the brushed bezel contrasts beautifully with the polished case sides and pushers. The textured dial displays horizontal grooves and a colour gradation from black to chocolate brown, making for a stunning watch face that plays with light and shadow. Whilst the combination of rose gold, black/brown dial and rich brown crocodile leather breathes classic class, the dial’s flyback chronograph adds a sporty splash of red to the aesthetic, marking the 5980R out as a cutting-edge, supremely functional piece. As a final flourish, the astonishing intricacy of the cal.CH28-520C movement is visible through the watch’s sapphire display case back. In Patek’s words, a watch to “accompany the most active lifestyles with incomparable class.”
