Rolex Day-Date 40

Rolex Day-Date 40
“40mm case and bracelet in platinum, a meteorite dial and factory-set baguette diamonds. Surely the pinnacle of the Day-Date.”
First presented in 1956, the Day-Date is Rolex’s flagship watch, instantly recognisable worldwide. The first watch to ever display the day in full, it has been worn by several U.S. presidents, Fidel Castro, Tony Soprano and even the Dalai Lama. The ultimate example of the legendary line, this model, the 228236 is forged from 950 platinum, striking for its silvery white hue and vibrancy and, in Rolex’s words, the “noblest of all metals.” The dial is entirely crafted from meteorite, sourced from Rolex’s procured slice of the Gibeon Meteorite, which landed in Namibia from outer space, before being discovered in 1836. The Gibeon has since been protected by law, making Rolex meteorite dials extremely limited and highly sought-after. The pattern on each individual meteorite dial is completely unique, due to it being naturally-occurring. Visually stunning from all angles, the dial is also factory-set with ten of the highest-quality baguette diamonds, meticulously carved, shaped and aligned by master gem-setters. The iconic President bracelet “represents the ultimate in refinement and comfort,” to quote Rolex once more, whilst this model’s upgraded cal.3255 movement is highly resistant to magnetism, with a 70-hour power reserve and optimised Chronergy escapement. An undeniable masterpiece.
