Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual Time "Blue Dial"
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual Time "Blue Dial"
Aside from the 15202 “Jumbo”, which is soon to be discontinued at the end of the year, Audemars Piguet do not currently produce a 39mm sports watch. This seems a shame, as its these 39mm Royal Oak’s which have been some of our most favourite references over the past decade. Alongside the time-only 15300 (a simply superb reference), AP also gave us a Royal Oak with a GMT function, hence the name “Dual Time”. Available in a number of different metals and dial colours (such as the rose gold offering we currently have for sale), it has always been the steel references which have been the most seldom, most popular, and thus most rare to find on the pre-owned market. Featuring a busy, yet incredibly well-designed dial, the watch showcases the main time, a second time-zone hour/minute hand, a day/night indicator, the date and even a power reserve indicator. The sharp, angular Royal Oak shape being paired with the busy blue “Grande Tapisserie” pattern dial makes for a spectacle on the wrist, and all of this sitting within that iconic 39mm Royal Oak case in stainless steel gives off the qualities of one of the best travel watches. The blue dial itself is incredibly rare within this reference, with many of the watches being produced with either a black or a white dial. Recognised in modern-times as a “Boutique Exclusive” colour offering, it is in fact these blue dial Royal Oak’s which remain the most popular both due to their aesthetics and rarity. At a glance, its wearer is able to immediately identify the time in their local and home destination, all whilst having the pleasure of looking down at arguably Genta’s best-designed watches. Commonly referred to as “the most comfortable” bracelet in the watch sports watch industry, once this masterpiece has been put on, there’s really no need to take it off.
Condition Report:
This 2011 example of the iconic Royal Oak Dual Time has been wonderfully kept by its first owner, and remains in its entirety unpolished. Worn frequently throughout its 10-year life span, the watch displays light scratching throughout, especially so on the polished areas of the watch, but there exists no real deep scratches or dents anywhere on the watch. There exists a light surface scratch on the brushed area of the bezel at 3 o’clock visible in the photographs shown. Albeit’s original box and paperwork being misplaced over the years, the watch has just returned from an Audemars Piguet Service (June 2021), in which an Extract from the Archives was also requested, confirming the watch’s original sale in September 2011, and is in perfect mechanical order, guaranteed and under warranty with Audemars Piguet until 2023. Under request, we are able to polish the whole watch and bring it back to looking like a brand new piece.
