Having been confirmed by Audemars Piguet themselves that we are in the final year of the 15202’s production, we’re only one month away until it really is the end for this iconic reference. A tough reality for many to take (who haven’t managed to purchase one yet), the reference has been with us for almost 10 years, and will finally be replaced next year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the world-renowned Royal Oak. With this news being public knowledge, demand and thus prices for these steel Jumbo’s has gone through the roof in recent months, and there is seemingly no signs of anything slowing down. A watch which was often in the shadows of Patek’s level-offering in the 5711/1A, prices have gradually crept up over the past few months and we find ourselves now at an almost level playing field value-wise between the two - a status which we saw the Royal Oak Extra-Thin as always-deserving. Combing iconic, 70’s design with an elegant, modern chic is a tricky balance to find, and Audemars Piguet absolutely found it with this reference. At 39mm and being just 8.1mm thick, the watch becomes one with its wearer’s wrist and is arguably one of the most comfortable and well-fitting watches we have ever had the pleasure of selling. It’s bracelet could well be the best integrated bracelet across the entire industry, and with that blue “Petite Tapisserie” pattern dial within, the sky truly is the limit with this soon-to-be-discontinued icon.

Condition Report:

In really clean overall condition, this unpolished 15202 is an extremely impressive example. Being a late 2019 watch, and with production over the past two years been much-reduced due to the ongoing pandemic, this is likely one of the last few hundred of these watches ever produced. Often these watches reach the pre-owned market with a fair amount of wear to them, likely due to the high desirability to wear this stunning watch but also due to the highly polished sections throughout the bezel, case and bracelet. Albeit predominantly brushed, there exists polished, bevelled edges almost everywhere which give the Royal Oak that glimmering shine when it’s on the wrist. However, and as mentioned, the watch here shows very little signs of wear with just some light surface scratching to the underside of the bracelet. Its bezel, importantly is superbly clean, and as expected, the watch is entirely complete with its full array of accessories, entirety of spare links, and with its 2019 electronic warranty card remains under the manufacturer’s extended warranty until October 2024.
