Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
Rolex Cosmograph Daytona
“The versatility and vintage charm of a steel-bezel Daytona will simply never go out of fashion, and a Zenith model in this condition is a truly rare find.” Nick Baranga, Founder
Designed as the ultimate timing tool for endurance racing drivers, the Cosmograph Daytona remains in a class of its own and continues to transcend time. Produced between 1988 and 2000, this reference 16520 was the first Daytona with an automatic calibre and is a favourite with collectors worldwide, with its desirability seeming to grow year on year. Distinguishable as a Zenith Daytona - containing a Rolex-modified Zenith El Primero movement - from its sub-seconds at the 9 o’clock position, the watch features a crisp white, famously rare “inverted 6” dial, only produced between 1990 and 1993 and defined by the digit “6” present at 6 o'clock of the subsidiary dial being printed upside down, thus resembling a 9. This particular piece is an “E” serial model, with Mark 3 bezel and correct bracelet codes, signifying all-original components and making this a truly rare, perfect example. A vintage classic, the 16520 retains the historic steel bezel, a robust, masculine, ready-for-anything look that made the Daytona such a lasting icon, and its highly-legibledial with contrasting black-ringed sub-dials makes for an unmistakably ‘Rolex’ allure. Elegant and instantly recognisable, the watch has a powerful presence on the wrist, and in this superb condition is increasingly hard to find.
