Cartier Santos-Dumont XL “Limited Edition”
Cartier Santos-Dumont XL “Limited Edition”
The iconic Santos collection itself dates back to 1904 where the brand founder, Louis Cartier, granted the wish of his friend, the famous Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont: to be able to tell time while flying. Fast forward to 2021, and we were given two gorgeous limited edition references in platinum or two-tone steel and pink gold (as seen here). Limited to just 500 pieces, this hugely rare timepiece is inspired by the No. 19 - a very early, lightweight aircraft that was evolved from “La Demoiselle”. Coming in the XL-size variant of the Santos-Dumont, the watch is an incredibly good size on both male and female wrists, mostly due to thin and elegant, perfectly executed case. However, it’s within its two-tone case where this watch really comes alive. Featuring a rose gold-coloured sunray-brushed dial and Guilloché-like printed motif in the central area, the watch is brought together and makes for a simply gorgeous overall look. Finished with blued hands and rhodium-plated raised Arabic numerals, this could well be the best looking Santos-Dumont to date. The watch comes on a dark grey alligator leather strap, which suits the watch incredibly, but can easily be changed and given a new fruit of life through Cartier’s wide selection of coloured strap options.
